Diverse mechanisms regulating brain energy supply at the capillary level

چکیده
Neural information processing depends critically on the brain’s energy supply, which is provided in form of glucose and oxygen blood. Regulation this supply occurs by smooth muscle contractile pericytes adjusting diameter arterioles capillaries, respectively. Controversies exist over relative importance capillary arteriolar level control, whether enzymatically generated signals or K+ ions are dominant controller cerebral blood flow, involvement endothelial cells. Here, we try to synthesise relevant recent data into a coherent view how brain controlled suggest approaches answering key questions.

Neuro-inflammation, one of the pathogenic causes of neurodegenerative diseases, is regulated through the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway via the α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7 nAChR). We previously showed that either bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or immunization with the α7(1-208) nAChR fragment decrease α7 nAChRs density in the mouse brain, exacerbating chronic inflammation...

discussed (Schurr and Gozal, 2011; Hertz, 2012; Ruskin and Masino, 2012; Shetty et al., 2012). The fate of brain lactate in vivo is debated with opinions ranging from the hypothesis that lactate and not pyruvate is the end-product of aerobic glycolysis in the brain having a crucial role in coping with glutamate excitation (Schurr and Gozal, 2011) to the opinion that “exogenous lactate is not a ...
متن کاملRegulating angiogenesis at the level of PtdIns-4,5-P2.
Angiogenesis is a coordinated sequence of cellular responses that result in the outgrowth of new blood vessels. The angiogenic program is regulated by extracellular factors, whose input is integrated at least in part at the level of signal transduction pathways driven by phosphoinositide 3 kinase (PI3K) and phospholipase Cgamma (PLCgamma). Using an in vitro angiogenesis model, we discovered tha...
